About Waterkloof Hiking trail and Waterkloof Rock climbing routes
Waterkloof is one of the most beautiful of all the Baviaanskloof's slot canyons. It is also easily accessible to young and old.
It is a 3 km hike and takes about an hour and a half to do. Day visitors welcome.
Fee: R25 per person (no charge for children or students)
Rock Climbing:
17 Bolted routes difficulty from 16 to 34.
History:
In 2009 Waterkloof was the venue for the Rock and Road Competition finals. The area was first developed by Derek Marshall and other EC climbers. In 2008/9, Clinton Martinengo and Joe Möhle bolted the majority of the routes for the Rock and Road competition.
There were a total of 12 routes then and it remained so for the next 8 years. In 2016, Basil Jacksch and Joe Möhle returned to add another 5 routes ranging from 16-29, plus one closed project.
To date, there are 18 bolted routes at Waterkloof.
Information:
The kloof is a sport climbers dream. The area is pristine, the rock is excellent, the walk-in is short and in summer the kloof stays very cool.
The farmers, Quintis and Anina Bezuidenhout are very friendly hosts and have built a beautiful campsite and chalet for visitors at affordable rates.
